Merzouga is open all year, but the desert changes a lot with the seasons. Here is what to expect, so you can pick the right month and the right hour.
October to April: the easiest season
Days are warm and pleasant, which makes it the most comfortable time for quads, buggies and camels. From December to February the mornings and nights are cold, so bring a warm layer.
May to September: ride early or late
The middle of the day gets very hot, especially in July and August. In summer the best rides start early in the morning or in the late afternoon, when the sand is cooler and the light is softer.
Sunrise or sunset?
Both are beautiful. Sunrise is calm and cool; sunset gives the deep orange colour Erg Chebbi is famous for. A 2-hour quad ride that ends on a high dune at sunset is our most popular choice.
Wind
Spring can bring sandy wind on some days. If the wind is strong, we may suggest another time so you get a safe and enjoyable ride.
Book ahead in busy weeks
Christmas, New Year and Easter are busy in Merzouga. Message us a few days before to get the time you want.
